cannot delete empty folder

Netware 5.1 SP8 server, Windows XP workstation.  Cannot delete empty folders from the the Windows XP workstation OR Netware Management port of the server itself.  Windows XP error reads: "Cannot remove folder (folder name):  Access is denied.  Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use."  Netware Management Portal error reads:  "Unable to Delete /SYS/students/LABDELMO. 144 was returned. The directory must be empty before it can be deleted."

Folder itself resides on the Netware server, in case that was not clear.

I have full permission to this folder, and chkdsk cannot check a disk across a network.

Not being used by anyone.  Folder itself is empty.  Do not know how to check for a corrupt index, please advise how to do so.  Thanks.
