It sounds like they are getting their user credentials auto entered when the use the name (because the domain of the name is the same as the active directory domain) but not when going by IP (it doesn't know how to translate that IP into a host & domain pair to learn the domain its trying to authenicate against)

You might have a touch more luck if you included reverse DNS entries in the DNS (the one maintained by your ISP for PTR lookups against your IP).

Why not just instruct the users to access it only by name and not IP

What you mentioned is correct.
It make sense to ask the users to access it only by name.

I forgot to say one thing like recently we changed our server name.
we did ask the system admin to check out DNS config for this server, they replied every thing in DNS looks good.
Our uses use the server name to access the application. most of the users work "remotely".
This bug was found when testing.
We need to fix this before move to prodcution.

Thanks in advance.

Tigermatt,

Thanks for your Help.
I should not ask the users to make changes at IE level.

Ruscal,

your suggestion is very helpful to find what is the problem.
I can debug this problem following suggestions given by Tigermatt only when i access the site remotely.
I don't find any problem when i work in the office.

Thanks for your valuable information.

If you don't want them to set it at the IE level, use a Group Policy to push out the changes. See http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/78049/jsi-tip-6644-how-can-i-use-group-policy-to-add-a-site-to-the-trusted-sites-zone.html
