You don't specify whether you have the 32-bit or 64-bit edition of Server 2003. IF you have 32-bit edition, you are ONLY able to install a maximum of 4GB of RAM. This applies to any 32-bit OS, no matter what its &quot;system requirements&quot; says it could potentially support. You can use the /PAE switch (if your CPU supports it) to extend the address space in the CPU to 36-bits, giving you 2^36 bytes of RAM.<br />

For a 64-bit OS, you can support 2^64 bytes of RAM, which as you can probably appreciate is a very large amount - more than can be supported by any hardware at this stage. You will be limited in a 64-bit OS to the restrictions of the Operating System, which for Microsoft operating systems is detailed in that OS's system requirements.<br />

The PAE switch does not increase the physical memory size. It is used to increase the addressable memory space the CPU can address to applications. Physical memory(ram) and addressable memory space( not ram) are two totally different things.<br />
The server 2003 standard edition is a 32bit OS. 4GB of physical ram is its limit.
