What you listed is the Processor, not the motherboard. &nbsp;You are correct in that the amount of RAM a system can support is motherboard dependant and that you need 64-bit OS to see that RAM, you just need to give us the type of motherboard, or brand and model of the computer you have. &nbsp;Thank.<br />

You need to look at what the mother board can support and then consider what OS you are going to use. &nbsp;If your mother board supports 4GB and run XP 32-bit your RAM will be limited to 3.2 GB. &nbsp;I would just run a 64 bit OS to make the best use of your RAM. &nbsp;<br />

More than likely if it is a typical desktop mother board it will support 4 GB. &nbsp;

If you do not know the system board information you can always use SISoftware Sandra Lite. This program will give you detailed information about your computer. The Lite version is free for home use, but will expire in 14 days if your computer is a member of a domain. If you choose to use this utility, open it and click on the Hardware Tab and then Mainboard. It will quiery your motherboard for all information it can gather and in the list under &quot;&nbsp;System Memory Controller - Maximum Installable Memory&quot; , maxumim amount of ram the motherboard will recognize will be listed. In addition it will tell you how many ram slots you have and the size of the memory currently in the slot, so that you can determine your upgrade options. Note that the Maximum Installable Memory, is just what the hardware will detect. Your OS must be able to utilize the ram installed. 64-bit vs. 32-bit is not about allowing more memory to be installed into a system. &nbsp;It is about amount of pathways with which the processor can communicate with the memory that is installed in the system.<br />
<br />
For example, if you have a 32 lane highway and put 64 cars onto this highway and put a restriction that says that each lane must be occupied by one car for an entire row to move, you will end up with 64 cars stacked into two rows. &nbsp;Dependent upon the system, there is a further restriction that only one row may travel at a time from point A to point B.<br />

Taking the same example except now using a 64 lane highway and 64 cars with the same restrictions.<br />
<br />
You find that you can move the same number of cars between Points A and B faster with 64 lanes then you can with 32 lanes.<br />
<br />
Essentially, this is the difference between 64-bit and 32-bit. &nbsp;Has nothing to do with total memory amount but addressable memory amount.<br />

Not true... &nbsp;The amount of usable ram depends upon 5 primary things...<br />
<br />
1. &nbsp;The total amount of memory that the processor can address. &nbsp;The first processors that had a 32-bit addressable bus size for memory were able to address up to 4GB of Ram. &nbsp;These include the Intel 386 processor up to the original Pentium processor. &nbsp;When we get into the Pentium Pro and Pentium II the addressable bus size was increased to 36-bits, this in turn allowed them to address up to 64GB of Ram. &nbsp;By comparison the Dual-core Intel Itanium 9150M can address 1024TB of memory (or 1 petabyte). &nbsp;And theoretically all 64-bit processors can allocate up to 16 exabytes of Ram to a program.<br />

2. &nbsp;The total amount of memory that the motherboard chipset supports. &nbsp;Quite simple here. &nbsp;Many of us have run into a situation where we want to install 4GB of ram only to find that our system will only support 2GB.<br />

3. &nbsp;This one could be combined with the second one but since it is software based I decided to separate. &nbsp;The total amount of memory that the BIOS will support.<br />

4. &nbsp;The total amount of memory you can afford. &nbsp;48GB of 667Mhz Ram will cost you about $4,000.<br />
