asked on

How do I remove the group policy from the old domain?

I have a server that I removed from one domain and added it to another.  Lets call it olddomain.com and newdomain.com. Here the strange part.  When I look at the full computer name properties the full name is still showing up as server.olddomain.com instead of newdomain.com.  The Domain field below that shows the correct newdomain.com.

I'm thinking this is because of some group policy.  When I run RSOP I receive an error message stating RSOP failed.  Invalid NameSpace and shows signs of the olddomain.com policies.

How can I get rid of it and delete it?

Thanks

Are the GP of new Domain applying to this server. try gpupdate /forceupdate
Also, check the Network Settings, DNS setting on your NIC.

Hello;

I have rebooted it, tried gpupdate /force /sync, I have tried to copy the ADM files from another server and added the ADM's to this server.

Thanks

Hi,
In Computer Name --> Click "Change" --> In "Computerr Name Changes" click "More.." --> Change the Primary DNS Suffix of this computer.
Also make sure that the check box is ticked.
This should resolve
Thanks

I had already checked in there and it shows the correct newdomain.com.  I even went into the network card properties and added the dns suffix and click on use this suffix to register.

I should mention that on the rsop I can see there is a section, which is the part that is erroring out, that is called "Extra Registry Settings'.  If I can just delete that I think everything else will start working, but I can't find where its getting that information from.  If I go to gpedit.msc I don't find it anywhere in there.

A Question....Are new GP not applying or is it that you have none to apply. I mean you do not want to apply.

Kinda of both.  The new policies from newdomain.com are not being applied.  The current policies that are showing up are from the previous domain, and it looks like they are registry policies.  Those are the ones I want to delete.  I think its these policies that are causing the full computer name to show up as olddomain.com.
