When you say the least number of lines, are you refering to the least number of lines in total or the least number on lines in code behind?<br />

Because of ASP .NETs connection pooling you don't have to worry about opening and closing the connections to many times. Just open and close as you need it and .NET will keep them alive as needed for you without any performance loss.
