Hyper-V VS Vmware server for live server small/medium sized business on W2008 Host OS

I would like to know what would be -at this moment- the best virtualization solution to use on a brand new windows 2008 live server.

The first Guest OS that we will deploy is a windows 2008 std to run terminal services and a second SBS2003 server.

Since we have a windows 2008 x64 i was thinking to install hyper-v as a role. Somehow i don't trust it so much because it's still a release candidate version.

We've used VMware products all the time but i have no idea if vmware is well supported on a windows 2008 host OS.

yeah, we have several customers that are running SBS2003 servers.

The company here has less then 50 users. So that won't be a problem.

As for the ESX, this would indeed be the optimal solution. There comes a serial key with the W2008 dvd package for Hyper-V.
I was indeed refering to use VMWare 1.0.X.

Is there a limit on the number of Guest OS'es with the serial at Windows 2008?

Not that I've found, or at least it's far easier to overrun the capabilities of the hardware than to overrun any licensing restriction.

Note also that VMware Server 2.0 (currently in beta, will be released ~1-2 months) will support Windows 2008 hosts (and guests).

So we went directly for that solution. installed rc of vm server 2.0. If the final version is released we'll update the machine directly to the final release.

As for the Hyper-v, i think we better test it first in labo environment. From my experience with virtual pc and virtual server 2005, vmware was mostly better in performance and we had a less downtimes with it.

thanks all for the good advice.
