As combofix didn't solve the safemode problem, I tried what rpggamergirl wrote about rapidshare, but safemode still doesn't start. &nbsp;It halts after the line:<br />

any idea about that? &nbsp;I believe it's a bluetooth driver?<br />

That file belongs to a blue tooth software, uninstall it and disable its device from device manager then restart to safe mode.<br />
p.s. Right click my computer --&gt; manage --&gt; disk management.<br />
If you know the size of your HARD Drive, you might find it there. Hopefully you don't have anything on that drive. coz you need to reformat it.<br />
if you were able to detect it and you don't want to reformat, simply right click it and click make partition as active.<br />

And have you tried any dos programs to see if it detects the drive? it could be not a virus ..!<br />

The logs shows that you have Symantec and AVG, maybe they are only leftover of Symantec.. but if thats it then you will need to get the uninstaller for symantec to remove any registry entries and files belonging to symantec.<br />

Regarding the hard drive, follow the steps one by one.<br />
1- Right click my computer.<br />
2- Click on manage.<br />
3- Choose from the left pane &quot;disk management&quot; under storage.<br />

When you get to disk management will show all your connected hard drives even the ones that are not active with windows.<br />

Note that the HDD will be listed on the right pane.<br />
When you find the drive as right click and click make partition active.

O yes, I got rid of the virus alert msg. think it was only some, annoying, characters added to the timestamp. it showed up even in my mails in the AVG suffix.<br />
And yes, I think I had some problem with the symantec uninstall last year. I'll look into that...<br />

about the disk.. there seems to be something odd about it. I have attached screenprt from disk mngr and partition magic. first there is the recovery partition, by sony. Then there is a C: and a D: as set up by sony. these adds up to around 80GB which is the size of the disk. But then tehre is an &quot;unallocated&quot; area of 16,7MB. I don't remember I have seen this before. &nbsp;Any idea of what it is? Shouldn't be there?<br />

I believe we are very close to solve your problem, since the document you have attached showing that there's one partition not active..<br />

The partition is 16 gigabytes as it shows by your disk management, i'm not familiar enough with partition magic windows version but I trust windows disk management.<br />

now right click the disk that has the 16giga bytes and choose &quot;Mark partition as active&quot; then go check my computer if it shows any new drive available there, and if that didn't work then you should go to start -- &gt;&nbsp;run -- &gt;&nbsp;and type chkdsk c: d: ..<br />

Also there's another drive which i think is a removable media (disk1-E),, do you have any USB (Flash-Drive or external HDD) connected to the computer ??<br />

Regarding the safe mode, Try to update your Bluetooth driver note that you wont really need to use safe mode unless you are having a bad problem that can't let u log in into normal mode.<br />

I guess you should click on new partition which will convert it into a basic one, then you will have to format after windows assign this new partition a letter..!<br />

Regarding the unallocated partition for disk2 you need to check your IPod drive for any errors, usually the errors of unallocated system files caused by the way you remove the media.. sometimes unplugging the media incorrectly will cause that. or it could be just a cache drive size used for file transfer like when you format windows for example there will be 8mbs left there which you format... this is a cache drive.<br />

Open My computer <br />
Right click your IPOD drive <br />
Click Properties<br />
Click Tools tab<br />
Click Check now and tick the boxes &quot;automaticaly fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors&quot;.. <br />
Then click ok.<br />
If that didn't solve the unallocated partition size then its likely as I said above its only a cache drive.<br />

You need to make sure of the total size for your Hard drive... If it's 80gigs then your likely to have a problem with your current drive as a result of faulty restarts or computer shutdowns which causes this error and can be fixed using the command line chkdsk /f c: d: that i mentioned before.<br />

In Partition Magic it's possible to move/resize &nbsp;etc a partition. When I start that task it looks like I can move my C: to the left border of this mystical 16GB partition, and that I'm able to resize C: from 64&gt; 64+16GB which is impossible since the recoverypartition+C+D is 7+64+7GB which matches the 80GB disk. So I don't dare continue with that task<br />

The drive not shown was the C:, or really all hard disk section, had disappeared. That was corrected by Combofix.<br />
What's left is that I have this mysterious partition of 16GB, which seems to be virtual 16GB since the 80GB hard disk is completly represented by the three partitions Recovery C: and D:<br />
I don't consider this to be a hardware problem.<br />
But it shurely is something I can live with if you don't think it's threat in any way.<br />

If you already tried the safemode fix and since running combofix still you're unable to boot into safe mode. This looks like hardware/driver related, if the safe mode issue was malware caused it should've been fixed when running the AVZ.exe or when running combofix.<br />

If you still want to use safe mode and want to get rid of the 16 unallocated 16 gigs that shows the management disk console then I recommend that you do a repair installation for your windows.<br />
<br />
Note that windows repair installation when done to the OS will not cause losing of any of the installed applications or your documents... only will remove the latest updates and return your to the original service pack.<br />
