I attached the database where I tested the solution. 
After you unpack the TXT file from ZIP archive, rename extension from txt to nsf and double click on it. 
That opens the view in Notes client. 
Open the document (only one exists) and simply enter the console command into the field and click on button Run.

Firstly, ignore the comment about not being able to open it. If I copy it into the server's data directory (rather than my local data directory) then it opens fine. 
 
As to the rebuild, you can't rebuild DIRCAT whilst it's running. You have to quit it and then restart it using the -r switch. 
 
I currently enter the commands on the admin console 
 
tell dircat quit 
 
follwed by 
 
load dircat dircat.nsf -r

Just on the off chance that I'm approaching this the wrong way, let me explain the problem. 
 
Our Directory Catalog isn't updating correctly. Although new users are added to it as we would expect, it doesn't pick up on accounts being deleted. I resolve this by performing a simple rebuild as per the commands mentioned above. 
 
This is all very well providing I am in the office but there was a situation recently where I was absent and the DIRCAT didn't get updated (it caused a few problems at director level that someone's name was still appearing). This is why I'm trying to get the server to run a rebuild every night.

Well, I've tried copying various lines into a new agent but without success. I'm not really familar with the creation of agents and all I seem to be able to do is get loads of errors about how this line doesn't make sense and that line has an incorrect set and so forth. 
 
I'm quite surprised that this should be so complex. I really did have expectations of being told it could simply be put into the programs and being told how. I guess that'll teach me :)

You simply need to run the update daily.

I suggest you do the commands part like this: 
 
first send

then call the LS function

The sleep function causes a script to pause for at least the number of seconds specified. The script may pause a little longer, but that wont bother you. I suggest this cuz' I want to make sure the console has had enough time to process the quit request.

Automating a Tell command
