What tim eof HD are in the machines? are they SATA?<br />

Also im pretty sure your going to need to check all drivers for the machien to ensure they are compatible, but your first issue is likely to be the SATA drive one

the drives are sata, we have done this with sata drives before as for the drivers do you mean between machines ( it wont even go back to the same machine ) or is there hardware that norton does not support.<br />

Xp doesnt have any inbuilt SATA drivers so any installs onto SATA HGDD machines wont recognise teh SATA hard drive<br />

If you want ot test this go to teh bios of one of the machines you are trying to sysprep and turn off the SATA ACHI support and you shoudl see the machien will then complete the install.<br />
<br />
the other problem is a lot of teh drivers you have in your ghost image will be for the xp machines but the new ones will have different onboard hardware.<br />
<br />
the image you are using im guessing was for a slighlty older make/model/releaser of teh machine and the drivers for the onboard devices in your current build might not be compatible, id be inclined to create a new image for the new machines

the image we are using has been made with the current machine installed with XP VLK not an older model image, however the older model did work fine with ghost also had sata drives. thats what is making this tricky.<br />

Id still be inclined to test what i am saying if that doesnt work they we can look at other avenues but this type of downgrade issue is a common problem right now

in bios the only sata options we have are emulation type- set to hard drive and translation mode- set to automatic.<br />

should we change these options.<br />

ok i have to hold my hands up and apologise the Hp dc and dv models do not have the option to disable sata or AHCi in the BIOS ( learn something new every minute when you are like me)<br />

i do think you are going to have to slipstream teh drivers onto an image though as the vista downgrade just wont work with teh drivers on your other image

I dont think ive been clear or maybe ive missed something, Ive installed xp with sp2 with our volume licence key then set up the machine as normal run sysprep made the image all on the dc5800. but when i try the image on the next dc5800 the machine fails to boot, i have also tried acronis incase it was a ghost issue.<br />

also tried on another new dc5800 incase of a H/W fault not that i know what it could have been but i gave it a go any way.<br />

HP oem vista downgrade to xp ghost image problems
