If you are experiencing this issue with Outlook 2007 then install this update:

Here are some additional suggestions: 
&nbsp; 
# Ask all users to uninstall &quot;Microsoft Business Contact Manager&quot; assuming you are not using it (I'm not aware that you are). 
# Ask the person you are sharing their calendar of, to remove any large attachements to appointments within the calendar. 
# Move old calendar items to a new &quot;Ben's Archive Calendar&quot; for example so that you computer doesn't need to sync with those items too (easiest to do if you change the view to All Appointments then sort by date). 
# Check there are no corrupt appointments in the calendar. 
&nbsp; 
You can also enable cached mode for Outlook. For 2003 follow the following instructions: 
&nbsp; 
1. On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts. 
2. In the E-mail Accounts dialog box, click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next. 
3. Make sure that Microsoft Exchange Server is selected, and then click Change. 
4. In the E-Mail Accounts dialog box, click to select the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box, and then click Next. 
5. Click OK, and then restart Outlook 2003.

To disable caching in Outlook 2007, follow these instructions: 
&nbsp; 
1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings. 
2. On the E-mail tab, select the &quot;Microsoft Exchange&quot; and click &quot;Change...&quot;. 
3. Click &quot;More Settings&quot; and then &quot;Advanced&quot; tab. 
4. Make sure &quot;Use Cached Exchange Mode&quot;, &quot;Download shared folders (excludes mail folders)&quot; and &quot;Download Public Folder Favorites&quot; are all ticked. 
5. Close all boxes and restart Outlook. 
&nbsp; 
Similarly, if caching is currently enabled, you could try disabling it to improve performance. 
&nbsp; 
Note: You can use the scheduling functionality to check the free/busy information in shared calendars instead of opening individual calendars.

here at first the configuration: 
Outlook 2003 with cached mode 
Exchange 2003 SP1 
 
We have a user with an very lage calendar (&gt;300MB). When he clicks the calendar it opens in less than 2 sec. If he has a calendar item in his inbox and scrolls only over it or would like to open it, it needs more than 3 minutes and sometimes the client crashes. 
 
I know that the calendar is to big, but why is the access time so diffent?
