asked on

print windows explorer folder structure

We are currently looking at modifying our company filing structure.  To aid in this I am trying to generate a current snapshot view of all the existing folder structure on file server. I  am therfore looking to see if there is a simple way to copy an extensive folder structure layout (no need to list files etc just folder names) as viewed in windows explorer view to say a jpeg or powerpoint single slide view. This can then be blown up to banner size and printed for open dicussion.  The folder structure and all subfolders are quite extensive so currently only able to take screen dumps of limited folder views resulting in numerous screen grabs to see full breakdown after a few pages you tend to loose sight of the layout structure.

Is there a way to facilitate this?  Is there an application that can do this? Would like to maintain windows explorer folder structure tree layout if possible.

what you could do is to get on to command prompt

type
dir /s /ad > struct.txt

now open this struct.txt in notepad and then print / edit etc ....

hi guys thanks for replies. I had tried some of the print dir pgms previously but tend to just provide pages of text listing even after filtering which are also not so easy to review.

will look into links and let you know

drequinox thanks for cmd but dont think it generates in format required - incidentally how do you modify to print mapped network drive and particular folder and sub folders only?

rgds,

Hi Guys, had a further look at suggested links.  Some handy applications a couple I had not seen before.  Unfortunately I dont think I am going to get a pgm that will capture a complete (extensive) sub folder structure and output on one page format - scrathcyboy - I need to look into your html suggestion as not too familiar with it at moment -is there some further threads about doing this?

Many thanks for replies.
Rgds.

HTML can be viewed by all on a website, and commented upon in mail or something.  It is just easier than giving a presentation where people don't have time to review it in detail.
