Setup was unable to format the partition while using RIS

I have an Lenovo T-61 and I am trying to use RIS to install my Windows XPSP3 image.  I get to the point where it asks me to format the Hard Drive I choose the partition it start the format then I get an error that Setup was unable to format the partition.  The disk may be damage.  The disk isn't damaged cause I used the restore disk and got the computer back to factory defaults.  I think it has something to do with the Sata Drive.  The hard drive is a 160gb drive.

Any ideas?

How do you go about doing that - When I go into the Bios go to the SATA setting I have a choice of either AHCI or Compatibility.  I currently have it set to Compatibility.

I have changed the drive in the Bios to compatiible mode, and still get the error about the damaged drive.  My  next step is probably to roll the driver into the install, which I do not know how to do...or just build all my machines by hand, which I don't want to do.  Can someone let me know how to incorporate the drivers into the image?

The following things does the Trick:
-      in bios switch the SATA controller from AHCI to compatibilty
-      only add the NIC drivers to the image, NOT the HDD driver during initial setup
-      install HDD driver in XP, then at next reboot switch back the bios setting to AHCI
-      then add all the other drivers&.
