Can't install Sophos Management Server Database on SQL Server Express 2005 on Windows 2003 Server Std. x64

Hi,

I am runnig a 64bit version of Windows 2003 standard and I want to install Sophos Endpoint Security on that machine. I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 already and I have created an additional SQL instance called "SOPHOS64" and the system user "sophos_db_user" is created and set up to be able to use that instance.

I tell Sophos setup to do an customized installation and I add the information mentioned above to install its management database into the SOPHOS64 database. However the service "Sophos Management Service" is unable to start, it displays the error message "Unknown Error 0x80004005" which is not very helpful.

I have to say that there is already another instance of SQL Server Express running called "BACKUPXC" which was created by the installer of Symantec Backup Exec 12d.

Are there any hints you can give me on this?

Best regards,
toskala

You won't believe! I finally found a solution on that crap.

Sophos asks while installation for the SQL server instance, username and password. I was downloading SQL Management Studio as you suggested and was able to connect to my created instance SOPHOS64. But that only worked when i was using logon credentials like "machine\Administrator" (windows logon).

So far so good... I started up Sophos installation again and chose exactly that credentials which worked with SQL Studio. Sophos Management Server still couldn't start. I went to the registry and looked for the database connection key, found that it was using for "DatabaseUserDomain" the local server name, I changed that to the domain name, plus I needed to change "DatabaseUser" from lowercase "administrator" to "Administrator", after that it worked like a charm!

Thanks for your hints they pointed me in the right direction!

Cheers,
