If the light (battery with the cross in it) lights, it means that the batterie has not passed the self test. Usually you should hear also beep tones, if you switch on th UPS.<br />
<br />
A blinking LED means, that the batterie is not connected. <br />
<br />
If there are no other LED signaling (Online should be light green, nothing else), it may be, that the batteries are not correctly connected. Usually, you cannot make big mistakes (wrong polarisation etc.) but make sure, the battery connetion is correct.<br />
After replacing the battery, you have to initiate a self test to clear the battery LED. !!!<br />
The self test can be initiated by the software, reeboot, the self test button on the UPS<br />

Another comment: If the light will not go out, just wait 24h to load the batterie and then repeat the self test.

There is only one way to put in the connector it has a groove to prevent the wrong polarization.<br />

I just recently repalced the abtteries in two APC Smart UPS 1550 RM units.<br />

One unit has a red light lit up under the icon of a battery with an x on it, it also has the green battery bar completely full.<br />
The other unit has the green battery bar completley lit up but it is flashing.<br />
