DFS / Share Weirdness

Hi,

I'm experiencing some weirdness with DFS and shares.  It's like this:

1: Three servers, PCFILE, SLCFILE02, and Breckserver all participate in replicating DFS namespace \\domain\fileshare

2: When I use a UNC path to get to, say, \\slcfile02\fileshare\path, it shows a bunch of files.  But when I look at the shared folder via Explorer on the server, it appears empty.

3: A lot of my users seem to be referred to the servers in the other physical sites, even though DFS understands that each server is in its respective AD site.  It usually takes a reboot to get a proper referral.  How do I disable referral caching?

Thanks

Do you have replication enabled? Check which server is the primary one, as it looks like \\slcfile02\fileshare\path is not pointing to slcfile02, maybe to the partner server in DFS and that's why when you browse slcfile02 from the browser, you don't find anything.

Check the different folder targets for the path in DFS \\slcfile02\fileshare\path and that will clear things for you.

@Rajith,

I was under the impression that only \\\fileshare\path would be sent through the referral system, and that \\\fileshare\path would reference .  Is this not the case?
