How do I remove the Vundo virus and fix the automatic update error on my computer?

The solution involves downloading VundoFix (http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe), which does away with the virus completely. However, it needs to be executed in a few manual steps along with HijackThis, so please follow the solution on the page. Hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestions but i have already used vundofix and vundobegone. i still have poblem browsing with IE. There are unwanted pop ups, and i cannot install google toolbar. when i try to use google for search it sometimes just doesn't load the page.

The automatic updates is still turned off. I can't get that working. I am also not 100% sure that the virus was cleared since i have deleted these infected files quite a few times before but the virus still remains.

I also ran the spyware doctor and it show 7 low level infections and 1 high level threat. I need a know how to remove trojan purityscan.

Spyware Doctor should get rid of purity scan.  What was the high level threat?  Did you run Combofix?  If so, please post the log.

Download it, update it and run it. Let it remove/quarantine whatever it finds.
Which version of Vundofix did you use?  This is the latest:

Use combofix as phototropic had suggested, it removes purityscan, vundo and other nasties. Hijackthis log is still not clean.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log and attach it in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..


Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
