I just built up a server 2008 file server with 4 500GB drives

I am unable to create a folder to test share functionality on a new server 2008 machine.

There are 2 disks raided for the Os and 4 (500)'s for a raid 5 plus spare setup I wanted to do some testing. I am not able towrite the the disk, any ideas?

I tried to ad myself Network\Administrator I was not allowed to add myself to the E drive, said"the emdia is write protected" I have not seen any setting for this on the computer this machine is a new HP ML350.

I cant run chkdsk becasue the volume is write protected.

I see nothing in the HP tools that would prohibit me from writing to the disk.

I have no AV installed.

The systemis setup as such.
Raid Array 1 (2) 72gb drives mirrored this is the OS and applications

Raid Array 2 (4)  500Gb drives, raid 5 to be used for shadow copy and file server/ storage.

It is the Raid array 2 ( logical drive E) I am havin issues with.

OK, so AV cannot be the problem. I would suggest you follow the other approaches I have already mentioned. The Diskpart approach seems to fix the issue most of the time.

Tigermatt,

I tried everything you suggested nothing worked.

So I tried to take the drive offline in the system manager console under disk mangement, then I brought it back online, and now I can write directly to the disk.

What do you think happened?

I am still awarding you points since you taught me more than I already knew.

Thanks a million for all of your help!

I'm thinking that the storage controller within the server had decided to lock the drive for some reason. It is obvious from your solution that we often miss the most obvious things which could solve this first!

Thanks for the offer for the points, I don't mind whether you award them to me or not. It's up to you :-)

Ultimately I followed your guidance as a way to troubleshoot and diagnose.
Disabling the logical drive then renabling it seemed to get it to sync up somehow, I amnow able to write to the disc.

Thank you for imparting me with knowledge.
