Thanks for the link nobus, but none of the messages applies. &nbsp;From the PC, when I use HP Image Zone, and click on Transfer Images From Scanner, I get the message &quot;The system cannot find the file specified&quot;. &nbsp;I don't know which &quot;file&quot; it it referring to. &nbsp;When I go to Control Panel and list the scanners, the 5510 does not appear. &nbsp;From the printer itself, when I press the Scan button, I get the message &quot;No Scan Options. &nbsp;You need to install or run HP software for feature. &nbsp;Press OK to continue&quot;. &nbsp;Remember that I have installed and then uninstalled each of the software driver packages provided on the HP site for Windows XP at the link below trying to solve the problem and none work. &nbsp;<br />

My PC is an HP m385c, running Windows XP Media Center Edition. &nbsp;I assume I am using the right drivers. &nbsp;Indeed when I run HP's online check, it confirms this. &nbsp;<br />

Thanks for your reply Nobus, but I tried that as well, before joining this site. &nbsp;HP replied that the product is out of warranty and to provide support, they want another $65 to renew the warranty. &nbsp;Ridiculous. &nbsp;It's actually cheaper to update to a new all-in-one printer, considering all the subsidies that are offered when purchased with a computer or camera. &nbsp;By the way, I downloaded and installed the last final version of drivers on the HP site (the oldest version), and once again, printer works, but no scanner. &nbsp;Scanner still works when attached to my notebook. &nbsp;I'm giving up. &nbsp;

Were getting closer! &nbsp;The VueScan software actually works! &nbsp; I downloaded it, and was able to scan immediately. &nbsp;This tells us that the scanner does indeed work, and with the PC it's hooked up to, but it simply doesn't work with the HP software (Image Zone), provided with the driver packages. &nbsp;However, the free version of VueScan leaves $'s all over the scanned documents, and the regular version is $39.95. &nbsp;I would think that HP would provide an equivalent software with their scanners. &nbsp;Following that logic, I searched HP.com for scanning software, and found out the the Image Zone software included with the driver package for my printer has been discontinued, and replaced by Photosmart Essential 3.0. &nbsp;I downloaded that for free and am installing it. &nbsp; <br />

Guess what? &nbsp;IT WORKED!!! &nbsp;What a simple solution, just install HP's latest imaging software, &quot;Photosmart Essential 3.0&quot;, which is free of charge and replaces the discontinued software &quot;Image Zone&quot; that was originally provided with the printer, and continues to be provided on the support page for the printer (no mention or link to the new software, BTW). &nbsp;I can't believe HP support couldn't have just said, &quot;Well, before you lay out $69 for an extended warranty plan so we can give you detailed support, why don't you try installing our new imaging software &quot;Photosmart Essential 3.0&quot; which replaces the discontinued software that your printer was shipped with? &nbsp;Anyway, that did the trick, and I didn't have to lay out $39.95 for VueScan. &nbsp;<br />

I'm going to Accept the last solution you provided since you pointed me in the right direction. &nbsp;Thanks for your help, and keep the final solution in mind (updating to &quot;Photo Essential 3.0&quot;) for future problems with old HP scanners. &nbsp;Here's the link...<br />

How do I install the scanner component of my HP OfficeJet 5510 if the factory drivers don't work?
