sendmail mail sender is blocked (by the server?)

using default sendmail configuration on RedHat Linux. I know I have access to internet, DNS etc. since can do all kinds of other network stuff (like ping, ssh, X11 in and out). But when sending mail outside using /bin/mail it does not get to the destination: the paste from my /var/spool/mail/abc is attached (I substituted some real names for privacy).

Dont know anything about sendmail and just want to be able to send mail OUT (dont need it for receiving mail). Is the mail blocked by the server because my Linux client does not have a domain name ? Or do I need to re-configure sendmail?

My entry in /etc/hosts is:
127.0.0.1 myserver localhost.localdomain localhost

thanks, jerzyb
