I, for one, would NEVER recommend using telnet on the external interface of a firewall or security appliance. &nbsp;I will go along with helping setup the ASA for SSH on the external interfce. &nbsp;The steps are in a Cisco doc found here: <a href="http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a008069bf1b.shtml" rel="ugc">http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a008069bf1b.shtml</a><br />

To summarize:<br />
1) setup aaa to authenicate your user<br />
aaa authentication ssh console LOCAL<br />
<br />
2) generate an rsa key (i used 1024 bit, it can be 512, 768, 1024, 2048)<br />
crypto key generate rsa modulus 1024<br />
<br />
3) specify the host(s)/network(s) allowed to connect<br />
ssh &nbsp; <br />
ssh 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.0 outside<br />

Thats it, you'll be ready to go. &nbsp;I would recommnd looking over the Cisco docs. &nbsp;They go into detail about this setup and the options you can change, advanced scenarios, etc.<br />

Oh, and in linux I use the cli program 'ssh' while in windows I am a fan of PuTTY over at <a href="http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html" rel="ugc">http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html</a><br />

oh, and by the way, if you absolutly insist on sticking with telnet over an encrypted protocol... the telnet instructions are in those same Cisco docs.
