You can go from sp1 to sp3, but I don't recommend it. SP2 includes several major software changes....for exammple, windows firewall, moviemaker, and several other networking and remote access programs. SP3 is just updates and a few networking and security updates. SP2 is the gold and SP3 is a nice chain to display the gold. You really should install both. SP3 includes all the patches that have been released from SP1 and SP2, but if bowser13 says that there is some additional content only available in SP2, then slipstreaming in SP2 before slipstreaming in SP3 will everything.<br />

I'm currently on a laptop with SP3 installed from our slipstreamed disk.<br />

It has the Security Centre in the systray. Currently says no firewall or AV (next on the list for this machine).<br />

Just looking at the root and I see that this disk has SP1, SP2 and SP3. I don't remember slipstreaming any of those other than sp3.<br />

Entire disk contains 7,119 files in 179 folders.<br />

i386 contains 6,952 files (556MB) in 153 folders.<br />

If you are unsure, simply slipstream SP2 before SP3. There is no need to burn disks in between. If you have Nero, then the instructions on <a href="http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp" rel="ugc">http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp</a>&nbsp;will provide all the info you need. You will need the boot img from an existing disk if you want to make a bootable CD.<br />

If you really are unsure, then use Microsoft Virtual PC to create a SP3 VM. Check it all out. If it all works, then you can feel safe.<br />

sp2 includes a new program namely, windows movie maker and adds some functionality to some windows components. Sp3 add functionality to security and networking......one good feature for network professionals is the help in detecting black-hole routers.<br />

you do NOT have t have SP2 for SP3 to work properly. This is per Microsoft. So to reiterate, you CAN go from sp1 to sp3 without a hitch, I have done it several times. I do not recommend it, but it can be done.......also think about this, does sp3 include the windows firewall like sp2 does?.....

Going to try and build a bootable DVD to do an unattended installation of Windows (with all SPs and Hotfixes), with Drivers and with MS Office (with Service Packs), SQL Server Dev Edition (with Service Packs) and MS Visual Studio (with Service Packs). Should be fun! Looks like I'll need some Dual Layer media for this!<br />

Just doing all of that by hand can take all day.<br />
