Just because the name is the same, does not mean that the important security info is.<br />

The SIDs are different so it may not be possible to mount these.<br />

You may need to dump these to PST files from a server with the original AD.<br />

Hi,<br />
Is this new exchange server is installed in Disaster Recovery Method?. &nbsp;If not then the permission will not restore to original state. It is always suggested to install Exchange in DR mode. Once it is done you can restore the exchange data to the respective store.<br />
When you reinstall the exchange the in DR mode, all the exchange settings will restore from AD!<br />
After restoring you may get some errors, that can be fixed.<br />

I got it.<br />
1. &nbsp;I created a new server with Windows 2003 Server. &nbsp;Used the same name as the original Exchange Server<br />
2. &nbsp;I promoted it to a Domain Controller. &nbsp;Installed the latest Service Pack and all updates.<br />
3. &nbsp;Installed Exchange 2003 Server. &nbsp;Installed the latest Service Pack<br />
4. &nbsp;I dismounted the Private and Public Stores. &nbsp;I renamed the MDBDATA folder to MDBDATAold. &nbsp;I created a new MDBDATA folder and copied the original Priv.edb, Priv.stm, Pub.edb and Pub.stm that I need restored into it.<br />
5. &nbsp;I mounted the Stores again and it was ready.<br />
6. &nbsp;I created the users I needed in Active Directory<br />
7. &nbsp;I ran the &quot;Cleanup Agent&quot; on the Mailboxes folder... this made little red X's on every mailbox.<br />
8. &nbsp;With that I was able to right click on the mailbox I wanted and click on &quot;Reconnect&quot; it then asked me who's mailbox I wanted to connect to was and I chose if from my new list of users in Active Directory.<br />
9. &nbsp;I did that for every user I need the mailbox from.<br />
10. &nbsp;I then connected a new computer to the network with Windows XP Professional.<br />
11. &nbsp;I added this new computer to the Domain and logged in as one of the new users I created.<br />
12. &nbsp;I installed office 2003 and then configured Outlook for Exchange and this user I logged in as.<br />
13. &nbsp;Once Outlook brought up the mailbox I could then export the data to a .pst.<br />
14. &nbsp;I copied this .pst file to an external hard drive and took it to the actual working computer at the office, which was now connected to a new install on a Server with a New Domain and New Exchange Server. &nbsp;Imported the .pst and I was done. &nbsp;(for that user)<br />

Repeat steps 10 - 14 for every user I created in the new domain.<br />

I am in the same situation as cridog but when I tried to mount MDBDATA after putting in the old priv.edb, pub.edb, pub.stm and priv.stm I receive an error and the db is not mounted. Is there another way?
