Laptop crashes router when connecting.

I have a Linksys router that crashes everytime I connect my laptop to it. This happens whether I connect wirelessly or hardwire. This used to work and with no config changes it now is a problem. I have a Vonage device and two computers on the network. They all work perfect until the laptop connects. To get it back working I simply restart the router. Everything works well until I try and connect the laptop again. Any ideas?

Thanks

Try downloading and installing the latest ROM update for your router and Ethernet Driver for your laptop. See if this works.

Sounds like you could have an IP issue with the laptop perhaps.  I assume you are running DHCP, check and make sure the laptop does not have a static address configured.  If you are intentially using static addresses, take a look and verify your settings.  Further, take a look at the logs on your router and post info if these two things don't help.

I am running DHCP ive used a static ip as well as a dynamic ip for the machine and the results are the same. Here is my log from the router.

Check the laptop's MAC address and compare that to the router's MAC address. If they are the same then bad things will happen.

It is not supposed to happen, but sometimes you get duplicates and that will cause problems.

I have confirmed it isnt the MAC address but I have connected another laptop to the network (hardwire and wireless) and the router crashed again. The weird part is that the lights blink as if everything is normal. Any ideas?

Hi John,

Nothing helped. I will be taking the router back and trying a new one. Thanks for the suggestions.
