Moving from workgroup to domain.... Running client/server applications on the workgroup while a member of the domain???
I am moving from a workgroup network environment to a domain network environment. I need to make this a seamless transition and am the only IT tech on staff. Therefore, I would like to have the ability to run client/server applications on servers in the workgroup while being connected to the domain. This would give me the ability to move people over slowly. So far I can access the files, but am unable to run the applications that are loaded on the workstations. I get an error th at says "the DB could not be connected". Not sure what might be the cuase of this. I do not think it is a permissions problem since I can access all the files on the servers....Any ideas???
ASKER CERTIFIED SOLUTION
I mapped a drive to the server that is on the workgroup and can access all of those files while being logged into the domain. That is where I am a little confused. I can see all the data, setup, DB files and can access them. When I try and run the application it doesn't seem to be able to connect to the DB. I even reinstalled the application. I am trying to run ISISWOOD. It is a order entry/invoicing/inventory software package. My major issue is that I am one person, and I need to progressively move all 25 machines onto the domain. Therefore, I need to add the workstations first and the servers last. I need to be able to run these machines in a dual type of setup until all the machines have been added to the domain.
The Problem was that it could resolve the server name. I changed it to the IP address and it worked....Thx!!!
