Install windows XP to a Dell machine

I have Dell machine Optiplex new, with SATA hard disk, I bought it with no OEM, and trying to install an XP to it, I press F6 then insert the floppy with the controller driver, then I receive the following error:

File iaStor.sys caused an unexpected error (4113) at line 2108 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c

I am stuck after that and can't install anything as teh Windows installation doesn't recognize the hard disk.

any help will be greatly apprecaited.

On a new system you may have a BIOS that's defaulting to AHCI disk access.   Look in the BIOS for disk access mode -- if you see an AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface), disable it.   Then try the XP install disk => if this is the issue, you won't need any F6 drivers ... you can simply install XP.

Hi!

If you have been using the drivers shipped with the computer from Dell, that might be your problem. Earlier Intel Matrix drivers had a weird bug that kept computers BSOD'ing without any good reason. I suggest you try making a new driver disk, and see how that works. Try this one: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=16013&strOSs=94&OSFullName=Windows%20Server*%202003%20Standard%20Edition&lang=eng

Those are new Intel Matrix Drivers :)

If this doesn't work, see if Dell has something similar you can download and try.

Who thought such a complicated error is a result of a corrupted floppy!! but it solved the problem and now all is fine.
Thanks,
Windows XP

Microsoft Windows XP is the sixth release of the NT series of operating systems, and was the first to be marketed in a variety of editions: XP Home and XP Professional, designed for business and power users. The advanced features in XP Professional are generally disabled in Home Edition, but are there and can be activated. There were two 64-bit editions, an embedded edition and a tablet edition.
