It is difficult to say what is low or not. It depends on the environment. Check on the other nodes(which are working) what is the setting for ASM instance. Check on the failing node whether you have a lower setting than other nodes. 
 
To check the current setting login to the ASM instance by setting your ORACLE_SID to the ASM instance SID. Then use sqlplus to login and check the current setting byissuing the command show parameter process

If you have multiple databases running from a single Oracle home, you can not apply the patch to only one database. You will need to apply the patch to all the databases running from this Oracle home.

It is a difficult question to answer. Normal practice is to apply the patch in a test environment, test the application and then apply in the production environment. &nbsp;But as you are facing a crash situation (db is going down again and again), you may not have the time to test the patch in a test environment. 
 
Check the patch, if it is a one off patch to be applied with opatch, then it may be creating a rollback script to rollback the patch in case of a problem. Check in the readme of the patch. 
 
Also as you have a RAC setup, check with Oracle support whether this patch needs to be applied on all nodes of the RAC or only on the problem node.

I am giving u a script for manually running it as u will have to put the tape in to take backup so cron is not a good idea unless u dont remove the tape...u can modify it as per ur needs.. also comment and uncomment lines and alter as per ur needs.... 
I use this in sap environment with veritas VxVM...
