Some gernal hints: 
If you print from word or excel or other applications, the information is sent to the printer in escape sequences, which are very fast and has a little amount of data. If you print images (like PDF) there may be a few issues, which takes a long time to convert and may also overload the printer memory. 
Have a look into the printer properties. There are a few settings ehich may determine, waht the printer gets. 
 
Replacing screen fonts by printer fonts 
True Type as Bitmap / Raster etc. 
Printoptimazion 
Enhanced printing functions 
The different printer will react different on these settings, most trouble I had with printoptimazion setting. Also you have differnt options on different printers. 
First, check if you can find a more recent printer driver on the HP page. 
Then, play a little bit around with these settings and check, if this changes the behavior. 
also check the settings on the working printer, if there are different settings. 
 
Also the PCL6 printer driver may have problems on some printers. You may get better results using a PCL5 driver.

Have a look at the printer queue, if you print documents, which are slow, just to get an idea, how much data the printer gets. Also if the print job leave the queue of if it hangs around.

I assume, that the print job shows, that the transfer has started (you see the total amount of data as well as the already transfered amount) and the value for the transfered never reaches the total amount and the job reports an error? 
 
There are some posibilities: 
a.) Check the total amount of data, esp. if you send a single page. The printer may have to recreate the page in the internal printer memory. If the amout of data is lesser htan your memory (max 288 MB), than this should not be the issue, otherwise ist maybe the issue but need not to be. If the amount is bigger than your memory, try another smaller PDF to print. 
b.) Try to change the printer setting described above. As I stated, some of my HP printers do not work with printoptimazion enabled and they produce a illegal escape sequence, which corrupts the job. 
c.) Check your driver version and the kind of driver (PCL5 or PCL6). Current version of the driver is 61.074.561.43 (both) from june 2008. If you have trouble with the PCL6 driver, try the PCL5 driver, which is more reliable. &nbsp;If you have installed PCL5, the PLC6 driver may be a try. The original drivers on the Printer-CD maybe older, the original CD is from Oct 2006. 
There is also a new Port Monitor driver for this printer (from sep 2007), which may be included in the Plug and Play Driver package from Feb 2008. 
If you install a new Plug and Play package, it is a good idea to completely remove the old package andmake sure, the printer itself is also deleted --&gt; reboot.

&nbsp;d.) Last but not least, your printer has a jet direct network card. If you installed the complete package, you may find there two tools, one for software updates (HP Update) and one for updating the firmware (HP Download Manager). If you don't have the last one, your BIOS may not be updatable by this tool. The other tool never finds newer software for my printers, nevertheless there where newer drivers on the HP page.

So far nothing has worked. At times it seems the jobs spools to the printer but no output. Other time the print jobs sits in the queue. I ahve loaded new driver and changed every setting I can find and nothing seems to work.

1.) Which OS do you use? 
2.) Can you say something about the amount of data of the print jobs, which are hanging and which pass the queue? 
3.) Have you tried to print JPG or other picture files from other programs? I.e. Photo programs or Windows Picture and Fax Viewer? 
4.) Do you try to print from Acrobat Reader? Which version? 
5.) Does your printer shows any reactions (like flashing lights etc.) if you try to print? 
6.) Can you see a printer preview? You have a button or menu item, depends on the program. 
Note: if print jobs are hanging around, you should make sure, that all queues are cleared before your try to print another document. You can delete the jobs out of the queue AND you should switch off and of the printer to clear the internal printer queue.

1. Windows Xp in a network environment. 
2. a pdf file that shows in the queue of 84.6/192 kb does not print but eventually disapperas from the queue. The printer will sound as if it is going to print - then no output. A 1.32 MB word document just printed 4 pages and then failed.

4. I use Adobe Reader 7.0 and Adobe Acrobat 8.0 neither print. 
5. Yes lights flash and printer seems to &quot;warm up&quot; but then goes back silent. 
6. Print preview works on all progams that have preview ie Word Excel and Powerpoint. Data is there just not printing.

These are the things I would have a look on. I assume, I do not need to remark, that the page size setting of the printer driver dialog must fit to the printer paper Size setting. Otherwise the printer would wait for the correct paper. 
Waht Im wondering about is the memory size. The printer need some memory for itself, but 15 MB is a little bit less with a second DIMM. Usually the memory, the printer need can not be higher that the default configuration of the printer. Is it possible, that there are hanging print jobs within the memory. You should have a function on the printer control panel, to clear the print jobs. Check if the available memory changes, if you do this. &nbsp;Also check, if the memory changes if you turn off the printer and turn on again. 
 
Have a look at the page size settings, if you print PDFs. Acrobat 8.x have some issues with printig, so you may try Acrobat 9.0 But as you said, other programs do also not print, this is not the only problem. 
You may temporarly enable the PS Error setting, just to see, if the printer produces PS erros. The you may get an empty page with an PS error code. You should disable this later again. 
Do you have a web-page for the printer (or maybe a PC programm like HP Toolbox) to config the printer? Just try <a href="http://192.168.0.188" rel="ugc">http://192.168.0.188</a> &nbsp;There should be an option for errors. Whenever the printer produces an error, you will find an error code there.
