VMware Vmotion

Tthe purpose of vmotion is to move virtual machines from one ESX server host to another.
I know that DRS distribute the load between ESX hosts in the cluster.
HA will move virtual machines from an ESX server if it goes down to another ESX server available in the cluster.
SO when do we use vmotion?, is vmotion process initiated manually or automatically?
