It's a while since I used Backup Exec - I would think that it is scheduled to do a backup and is expecting either a particular tape, or blank media. &nbsp;Have you tried to cancel the scheduled backup operation, then try to Restore? &nbsp;(Also make sure the tape is write-protected before inserting it!)<br />

i try to shut the backupexec server down, insert the media again and the power on the server.<br />
so the backupexec recognize the media but when i try to catalog the media eject again.<br />

it's happen with all full media that i try and when i use blank media or media that not completely full<br />
it's working fine.<br />

In the application event log I was looking for anything (Informational events, warnings or errors) from source &quot;Backup Exec&quot;.<br />
Also, in the system event log, look for events 9, 11, 13 or 15 from the driver of your SCSI card.

OK, after purchase new cleaning media and after i use it, i can insert the media and preform catalog.<br />
the problem is that after try to restore, it's restore 50MB and then fail.<br />
in the event i can see event 34113<br />

1. i create RSG and assign the right DB.<br />
2. restore from media, in the exchange redirection, type the exchange server.<br />
3. i am currently try to restore to the same server but to the RSG.<br />
4. as i understand, the backupexec should try to restore to the original DB but the exchange redirect to the RSG.<br />

When you're trying to restore to the RSG on the original server, don't redirect the restore. Just make sure you're live databases are mounted and that the RSG is dismounted and marked to be &quot;overwritten by a restore&quot;.<br />
If it still fails, post the exact error message.

the backup exec server is a different server then the exchange server so you must tell him who is the exchange server don't you?<br />
now when i say redirect i just go to micrsoft exchange redirection, mark exchange redirect set and then<br />

Backup Exec knows what server a backup comes from - so when you restore the data it will restore to the original server. That's why you don't need redirection.<br />

Are you trying to restore a snapshot backup of the Exchange mailboxes? You seem to say &quot;it's not a snapshot backup, because it's a database backup&quot;. I can tell you that a database backup can be a snapshot backup. Have you looked into the screenshot in the article?<br />

If the Exchange VSS writer is being called upon when restoring, that generally indicates a snapshot backup. Also the fact that the writer then also indicates the database is online suggests you're trying to restore a snapshot backup. As I mentioned, snapshot backups cannot be restored to the RSG, so BE is trying to restore it to the live database... and that one is still online.

Yea i did and it's not working.<br />
I read that when you install to alternative server it should be to a diffrent domain(New AD).<br />

so i install new DC for new domain, install this exchange.<br />

Where are you trying to restore to, on the other server? Still the RSG, or are you trying to restore over the main database? You should be restoring over the main database, so it should be dismounted and have the overwrite checkbox checked. And of course, make sure not to forget the redirection.
