Thanks for the effort. Ok I followed the directions to remove the Search Indexing option in Vista. I will need to try this out over the next day or so to be sure it is solved. I have a process Igo through on Mondays where this frequently occurs so I wiill know briefly the problem is solved...I am a afrequent user of the search option on my computer - so I assume that the next step is to use Google desktop as the utility for this....
Hopefully this will solve your issue (with the mentioned Monday of testing). Yes, a different search utility would probably help out here, if that is where the conflict stems from.
Google desktop being an excellent alternative to the WDS.
This did not solve this problem. The WDS is disabled - but - I could not get the last step completed - frisrt you disable it then you need to select Stop - it would not allow me to select the Stop - the menu bar was grayed and not accepting commands....just one further note on this issue - this occurs chronically when savings as excel 2003 files - compatibility mode.
Microsoft Excel topics include formulas, formatting, VBA macros and user-defined functions, and everything else related to the spreadsheet user interface, including error messages.
How are you doing?

If that does not solve it, see this:

If you are utilizing a network save or mapped drives, but from your question, I assume you are not using this, thus it is just trying to save on your computer (a local, non-network save issue). If so, then the disabling of the WDS above, should get you going!
Hope this helps,
