How do i set my steam games to send my WAN IP instead of my LAN IP?

I have recently been trying to setup a few servers on steam for my freinds to play on, but when they click on Join Game, it tries to send them to my LAN IP (192.168.1.20) instead on my WAN IP. I know I have all of the ports forwarded correctly, because if they type connect (WAN IP):27015 into the console they can connect and play. (I have attached my steam connection test results to the question).
EDIT: I've been trying both Listen servers and Dedicated. Both show my LAN IP.
I've tried CS:S, Garrys Mod, and HL2DM

What does an external site such as http://www.whatsmyip.org return as your IP address WAN or LAN?
Do you have your server set up as LAN or WAN?

Often users set up Steam Servers using LAN addresses even though they want exteranl connections becasue they can't see the server themselves if they choose WAN as you cannot connect to your local server using a WAN address if you are behind a router.

And I can connect to my own server if i manually connect to my wan ip. It's just it shows my lan ip to other players if they try to join via the server list.

Ok, I added that to my server config and now when I try to start a listen server, it crashes w/o error

Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is the set of networking protocols that define end-to-end connectivity specifying how data should be packeted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination. This functionality is organized into four abstraction layers which are used to sort all related protocols according to the scope of networking involved.
