Hello SGadgt,

The Outlook folder where attachment opens may be full. Clear the files from Outlook cache folder OLKxx.  This folder is difficult to access. Here is a way to access the folder and files
http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2003/20030828.htm

In Vista, the Secure Temp folder is located at C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\X30MWG3N

Hope this helps!

Thank you both war1: and chilternPC: I thought that the fact that the temp directory that the registry was pointing to was not there that creating and assigning a new directory would solve the problem.  No luck this it very frustrating.  I have attached screen shots of the actual error message the first is the error that shows when trying to preview and the second is when you try to double click the file to open it. ARRRG!  Help!!

SGadgt,

Does the problem only occur with PDF file?  What are you using to view PDF file?  If you save the attachment as a file, then open it, will file open properly?
Peter Hart

try turning off the preview mode (tools - trust center - attachment handling  - tick the "turn off bit")
then try and right click and open them.

Tried turning off attachment handling still cannot save or open. I am going to try setting up a directory that is exactly what was in the registry pointing to the secured temp directory as the original default.

well done,

I see Norton still manages to get in there and F$%k things up.

Well, that could have been the solution for your issue, but is not the solution for the problem in general. I don't use Symantec, nor Google Desktop, and I still have the issue. Office calls for a PDF Preview handler for Vista.
