Print spooler service disappeared from registry. And stopped, 3 days after recovery

My client has a print server (windows 2003 standard with sp2). A network printer is attached to the server on standard TCP/IP port and shared on the network.

On the day they called me, I found out that the spooler service was not in the list of services and NOT in the registry, too. No obvious system/application log was found. I searched solutions on EE and recreated the registry key by importing from same OS. Then reinstalled the printer and shared on the network. It worked on Friday and weekends.

On Monday morning, my client called and told that the spooler service stopped, again. Their in-house technician informed me that they had to restart the server to make the printing service work.

Please help!

Hi jbyrd1981,

Thanks for comment.
Since the server is a production server, we cannot set it to reboot simply. We need to find out the root of the problem.
Someone please point out the reason of this happening. Thanks!

The exact same thing just happened to our windows 2003 R2 server.  The print spooler service just vanished.  I can't even follow jbyrd1981's idea, as there is no listing for Print Spooler service in services.msc.

Windows Server 2003 was based on Windows XP and was released in four editions: Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter. It also had derivative versions for clusters, storage and Microsoft’s Small Business Server. Important upgrades included integrating Internet Information Services (IIS), improvements to Active Directory (AD) and Group Policy (GP), and the migration to Automated System Recovery (ASR).
