obviously the first question is .. is your mail server authorative for ntmedic.com.au ?

 - Have you setup your access.db to allow ntmedic.com.au to RELAY through your server ?

ASKER

Gday Guys,

Im very new to this so please bear with me

I have ntmedic.com.au and hcagroup.com.au in the access file, the records look like this

hcagroup.com.au         RELAY
ntmedic.com.au  RELAY

both are seperated by a Tab.

and have done a makemap like this

makemap hash access.db < access

and then restart like this

service sendmail restart

ntmedic is hosted on said server hcagroup.com.au is not.

i dont know if this is relevent but here are the mx records for ntmedic.com.au

ntmedic.com.au. IN      MX      30 filter3.ntmedi-1.mailguard.com.au.
ntmedic.com.au. IN      MX      10 filter1.ntmedi-1.mailguard.com.au.
ntmedic.com.au. IN      MX      20 filter2.ntmedi-1.mailguard.com.au.

found in /var/named/ntmedic.com.au.hosts

@mwecomputers thx for the docs, unfortunately they are not very helpful to me, i have gone through heaps of documents trying all sorts of things with no real help.

Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.
