Migrate user's profiles

Hello,
I have this problem:
1. all our users are are in a WORKGROUP, we must migrate them to an AD domain.
2. we must migrate the existing profiles and data from their computers and current profiles stored locally.
I know there is a tool called USMT and also File&Settings Transfer Wizard. But, i dont know if this tools are able to move current profiles, stored locally, to new profiles created by joining to AD.
does anyone has any  experience with such scenario?
thank you,

this solution looks to me like a migration from a AD DOmain to Workgroup. What i am looking for is a viceversa solution: migration from a Workgroup to AD DOMAIN.
Let me know if my Q is more clear too you.
thanks,
If you want to preserve his existing profile, login to his computer, right click on My Computer - Properties -  Advanced - User Profiles, then find his ID and do a 'Copy To' the network location where you want his profile stored. Set the 'Permitted to use' value to the user's logon ID, and then update the user properties of his account in AD to point to the new location.

actually i dont need to change the profile from local to roaming.when we migrate the user to AD domain, we just need to preserve the current settings and documents and so on, locally on their computers.
As said, you need to copy the profiles onto a server if you want to use them in AD.

Or you could try and copy the profiles from the PCs into a USB drive for preservinf them and then once you have a domain in place, copy it back to the server from which you can map it to the users.

Hope this helps.
