One more point is that you can still use ArcServer r12 on the Windows Server / PC, however until the O/S on the AS/400 is upgraded you will need to continue to use the r11.5 agent.

I suppose it's possible that there is an i5/OS V5R3M1 level somewhere; I don't recall ever seeing one, google doesn't show any hits and none of the systems that we have with V5R3 installed show reference to V5R3M1 -- all are either V5R3M0 or V5R3M5 and the designation is specifically for the LIC rather than for i5/OS. The only hardware variation that we don't have anymore is a box with LPAR requiring a primary partition. All of our single partition systems are V5R3M0 and our HMC LPAR systems are V5R3M5 (for LIC only, of course).<br />

Given that google didn't show matches, I'm a little at a loss. It would seem that they only support V5R3 that's in use by a very limited set of customers.<br />
<br />
And the fact that they support clear back to V3R7...???? That makes absolutely zero sense if V5R3 can't be supported similarly.<br />

I'd _love_ to learn their reasons. Wish I could help more.<br />

I have spoken to the company that provided us with the AS/400 and their consultant also couldn't understand where V5R31 ? came from. &nbsp;he has said exactly the same in relation V5R35.<br />

Our initial feeling when logging the case with Computer Associates was that their technical department couldn't support the product they themselves had developed.<br />

V5R3M5 is the LIC version for LPAR systems with HMC; the i5/OS version is still V5R3M0 for those however.<br />
<br />
Nevertheless, it isn't at all clear how a different LIC version would make the slightest difference to any product that could install and run on OS/400 as old as V3R7 _and_ as recent as i5/OS V5R4. The LIC differences between those two extremes are enormous.<br />
<br />
IBM made a limited subset of TCP/IP available even during restricted state when V5R1 came out. I could see how that would be extremely useful to a remote backup function. But that clearly wouldn't be useful if the same software works on version 4 and even older version 3. So, it would seem that something else is going on. Also in V5R1, Windows Messaging APIs were added to OS/400 and even that could be useful but still eliminates the earlier possibilities.<br />

Strange requirements. Without a clear statement from ARCserve on what's going on, it's going to be a long-shot whether anybody here can shed much light. I'm sorry I can't add more.<br />

I have followed the brief instructions on how to install the client agent on the AS/400 system, which seems to be installed and running correctly. I have then gone in to the management console to create a new backup job or modify an existing job, right clicked the as400 systems heading and added a new machine filled in the hostname and ip address, then went to expand the machine and it asked for an username &amp;&nbsp;password. I have tried every admin level username/password I can think of that is setup on the as/400, but everytime it returns an error &quot;failed to login to the agent&quot;.
