Try installing the version that you just removed again (e.g. Reader 8). If that works, then uninstall Reader the normal way and you should be able to install Reader 9.

Did you see the first part of my message: Try to _INSTALL_ the same version that was on the system. Does that work?

I cannot because it was an old download and I am not sure which version it was as I had auto updates on.<br />
<br />
If there was a tool (like Symantec for removing Norton) that would be superb! <br />
I actually did use control panel &gt;&nbsp;uninstall but that left lots of files and registery entries which I have now deleted.<br />

Thanks, I took your advice and searched my drives for the old Adobe. It was V6, I reinstalled and it worked. As I only need a basic reader on this machine, I will leave it as is, AND turn off any auto updates.<br />
The registry key mods will probably work but I realy did not have the confidence to fiddle.<br />

Anyway, all done, thanks for your help.<br />
For anyone with similar problems, beware, the upgrade to V9 seems to be well documented as problematic in some cases, dont do it unless you really need to!<br />
Actually there are free PDF readers but I am not sure they integrate with browsers? <br />
One for the experts.<br />

I have had an earlier version of Adobe reader. it stopped working so I decided to download the latest version, 9.<br />
It tells me that it cannot remove previous versions. <br />
Searching I found that this was a commen problem and advice was to use MS uninstaller, Adobe is not shown on the uninstaller scan. I have searched the registry and removed all instances of Adobe and Acrobat as well as deleting the folders in Program files and commen files.<br />
Have searched registry with regedit and jv6power tools and removed everything I can find.<br />

Now I am stuck, I desperately need the reader but cannot install it.<br />
