Changes to files in shared drive not being saved.

We have some access databases on a SBS 2003 shared drive, most of them just containing contact information.  They tell me they went in and added a bunch of entries into the database and then one day when they opened the db, it was as if it was a version from like a month back. All the changes they had made were not saved.  And it was not like they just put them in and then reopened it and they were gone, they were being saved and then just one day they vanished.

Are there any type of caching settings either on the server or the client computers that could cause this?

And/Or what else could cause this?

This is not possible behavior in Access.

The likely cause is that a server drive failed, and that was the file that was restored.
Either that, or someone just over-wrote your production mdb with a version a month old.   Users generally don't offer up this information on their own.

Does this mean your file server is not backed up at regular intervals?  If so, you may be truly hosed.

The server backs up every night, but only keeps like 3 days back, and they didn't tell me right away so ya its gone..

What if the person was not synced up with the server and had a version that was in cached mode (offline viewing) and then synced up.?

I guess the only thing that can be done is keep an eye on it and have them tell me right away next time it happens.

That, and change the backup settings so it keeps backups for longer periods of time.

Thanks for your assistance, i'll keep an eye on it and i've also lengthened the backups so hopefully if it happens again i might be able to narrow down the source of the problem, and if not at least restore from backup.

Thanks!

Might not also be a bad idea to check the permissions on the folder that your Access app resides in, making sure that everyone has read-write, but no one other than you/a handful of others has delete.
