Hi, The beauty of 'rup' is that we no need to know the hostnames available in the subnet. It automatically scans the Unix machines available in the subnet and get you the uptime information. Just wondering why Linux doesn't have this type of command :)

Well, does it really &quot;scan&quot; the subnet for hosts when the command is called or does it already have a list of hosts ready, through NIS, or whatever kind of directory service? Maybe a linux host could access those resources too, to duplicate the functionality...

I'm not very sure how &quot;rup&quot; works. All I know is that it helps to find other hosts connected in the subnet and to know their load average. Below given is a sample output.<br />

sundev.travelcl &nbsp; &nbsp;up 19 days, 13 mins, &nbsp;load average: 0.23, 0.11, 0.11<br />

RUP command in Linux
