Can't see trusted domain in ADUC

Through acquisition I have two forests in my company.  Both are 2003, forest 1 is in native mode, forest 2 is in mixed mode.

I have set up an external trust between the two domains.  It appears to be successful.

I can delegate control of an OU in  forest 1 to a user in forest 2
I can delegate control of an OU in forest 2 to a user in forest 1
I can grant access to a share in forest 1 to a user in forest 2
I can grant access to a share in forest 2 to a user in forest 1

The problem I have is I can't see the opposite forest in ADUC (except when delegating control).  This means I cannot add users or groups from forest 2 to forest 1 (or add users from forest 1 to groups in forest 2).

Is this simply a feature of Microsoft, do I need both domains to be in native mode, or am I completely missing something?

In ADUC, you should be able to right click and select the Domain or Domain Controller that you wish to administer.

I can do that but I cannot add a user from One forest/domain to another.  I believe I should be able to add a user from the trusted domain to be a member of one of my universal groups.

I am getting the same issue ! It was working but the it just went. Although the domain users that have already been setup are still OK.
