Database Passwords No Longer Working

When trying to access FileMaker databases using the same passwords weve always used, we are no longer granted full access.  What happens is this, we enter the account name and password in the password dialog box and hit enter, and then the password dialog box blinks and comes back up as if nothing has happened the username and password no longer appear in the account name and password fields in the box.  If I enter the account name and password again I get this message: The account name and password you entered does not match those for any FileMaker account.  If I click ok, the password dialog box re-appears, but this time the account name and password remain; clicking ok in the password box again brings up the same password not working message, but clicking cancel bring up the database in a read-only mode.

Once the database is open, I try to change the password, but then the same problem occurs when I try to logon.

Whats going on here, and how can I access these databases?

either somebody changed the passwords, or the file is corrupted.
try to recover it first.
if you enter the file in read-only mode, it means the guest account has been used since login/passwd was wrong

It sounds to me like the first file is actually trying to automatically open another file via a launch script or relationship/calculation of some kind, with a default password. (that doesn't work)

You might have full access to the first file, but access into the next file might be restricted. This can happen when you selectively recover backups. A file goes bad, you get last weeks backup, restore it, but the old password is there....the rest of the solution has been updated with the new password you changed (or someone did) on a single file.

Of course - I am not sure how the system is setup, but you could also have shortcut files, that automatically open things on the server. Perhaps the shortcut file has the wrong password.

Multiple password boxes with different default credentials is usually linked to related files being accessed with an old, obsolete, or internally incorrect password.

I am guessing here..because I don't have enough info. Can you describe the system a little bit more plz?

Is it on a server? Multiple files?

:-)

It is on an FM7 server that hosts multiple files, and the DB in question is being accessed through the server using FM Pro 7 client.  The problem is that the account and password we think should work (i.e. have admin privileages) does not.  Also, we've tried moving this DB to a client computer and opening it directly, and the same problem occurs.

FYI: This is not a file restored from backup.
