Not sure if you'll be able to recover, but the correct process is (as root):<br />
<br />
aptitude update<br />
aptitude dist-upgrade<br />
aptitude install update-manager-core &nbsp; &nbsp; (if not already installed)<br />
do-release-upgrade<br />
<br />
<br />
You'll probably have to change your source.list back. &nbsp;However, chances are you've overwritten some critical binaries somewhere, most likely pointing to libraries that aren't yet installed.

thank's for your reply. I changed sources.list because I was told to do so on the ubuntu wiki. There are no repositories for 6.10 on canonical servers any more, resulting in errors while updating. I also tried alternate CD's, which didn't work.<br />
<br />
Do you maybe know some other repositories for 6.10 and 7.04 I could use in order to try the process you proposed? And is there any way to find out whether critical binaries are overwritten? <br />

6.10 is dapper, right? &nbsp;Dapper's still on the Ubuntu mirror I use (<a href="http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/" rel="ugc">http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/</a>) so should be on all of them!<br />

Thank's again for your help. 6.10 is Edgy and not supported any more. Unfortunately it's also not on the mirror you use. Do you know something like an archive for older releases? &nbsp;I've been searching for it but didn't &nbsp;find anything.<br />

in fact I feel pretty stupid for asking you for the old-releases repository. I've been searching google with different words for half an hour without results and only two minutes after posting I thought &nbsp;&quot;Why didn't you use old releases kubuntu&quot; But ok ....<br />

Thank's for the link with feisty upgrades. It's described totally different than on &nbsp;german ubuntu wiki, where I looked first before upgrading. So I'll restore the &nbsp;system from backups &nbsp;and try it this way. I'm sure this will solve my problems.<br />
