uh oh - I just found out my new laptop does not seem to support PCMCIA cards, as it has an ExpressCard slot only, and my PCMCIA card does not go all the way in, or am I missing something?

No that is right . They are two totally different sizes. What kind of wireless card is in use, Internal or ExpressCard? If its internal you may be able to borrow the miniPCI wireless card out of one of your other laptops. If it is ExpressCard ask around and see if you borrow one from someone else. Either way be sure to get the device driver for the card you put in.<br />

First of check to see what kind of wireless card it is and get the drivers for it. If your laptop has access doors on the bottom they that should make thing much easier. Once you have the doors open on both laptops compare the was the antenna cables are ran from the card and check the ends of the cables size.. To remove the cards there should be 2 metal or plastic tabs on the sides of the cards pull them to the left or right and the card should pop lose. Once lose compare the card to see if they are the same size, if they are continue the swap. Put the replacement card in the slot that the other card came out of by gently sliding it in the slot and pushing it down until the clips click. connect the antenna cables to the replacement card and close the door. start up windows and it will ask for the drive. Install the right driver for the replacement card and see if the connection is better.<br />

With no confirmation of a solution, I don't think this should be added to the PAQ database. If the author comes back and confirms that the USB adapter was/is a satisfactory substitute for fixing the laptop's internal card and/or antenna[e], then I have no objection (but then the author should just close it and award points theirself, too).<br />
