the thing is i bought the computer with vista already installed its not a stolen version or anything... but i dont have a vista disk

i tried f8 and doing the windows repair but the only thing it told me was to make sure any new devices connted to the computer should taken out such as a cd player or a digital camera. but nothing is connected to the computer beside my cabel modem. i tried setting my computer back to an earlier date but the earliest date there, was only two weeks ago, but this black screen problem occurred maybe three to four months ago.

That's an issue... Is there anyway you can contact your manufacturer or system builder and have them send you a disk? &nbsp;This problem is not uncommon and usually performing the startup repair solves it.

The repair is not just a restore point. &nbsp;It goes through and fixes all your system files envolved with windows starting up (and some others).

how long does that process usually take because when i did it, it didnt check for more than a few seconds before giving me that message to disconnect any new devices...

i can try to contact the manufacturer, but i bought the computer at compusa... i never got a disk for vista.

i read that the disk isnt needed if you press f8 and the repair option is there... there is an option to repair aswell as another option to restore computer to an earlier date before the problem occured, but i guess my problem happened so long ago that that date is no longer available for me to go back to.

It doesn't take very long at all. &nbsp;It asks you to disconnect all your new devices almost instantly from what i remember (It's been a while sicne i have done it). &nbsp;Usually you should just leave in anything that would normally be in there minus flash drives. &nbsp;But it's fairly simple as its described in that tutrial i posted for you, you pretty much just start it and let it do it's thing.

Okay than yes your fine. &nbsp;The tutorial i posted describes running the repair from a computer with it preinstalled without the disk. &nbsp;Just go ahead and run the repair from there.

does it restart the computer itself when its done, or should i do it on my own. i believe when its done if it hasnt solved the problem its supposed to give you a list of ways you can solve it yourself but it doesnt provide me with any information on any problems or any solutions

It should restart automatically. &nbsp;As for the list i believe it tells you what problems it found and if there were any it could not resolve. &nbsp;Have a look at this solution for a better description of what it does. &nbsp;This guy actually had the same problem as you.<br />

I assume you have already tried the repair and it did not work correct? &nbsp;Have you tried booting in safe mode? &nbsp;If not go ahead and try that. &nbsp;If you can boot in safe mode it's likely that there is some kind of a driver that is causing it.

i get the same black screen in safe mode and the repair doesn't work. and it didnt restart after it was done either. it said there were no problems found. i tried the administrative account aswell and it still did not respond. do you think the option of restoring my computer back to is original factory condition would help? thats kind of my last resort right now
