In IE7 option menu, UNselect the option to check if IE is the default brower. Go to Tools &gt;&nbsp;Intenet Options &gt;&nbsp;Programs tab.<br />

There can be Only One default. &nbsp;So the questions I have for you are ,<br />
<br />
1. Are you the Admin of this computer? &nbsp;If not, talk to that person, he/she controls the Default Browser.<br />
<br />
2. Have you tried to confirm that Firefox is set as default here.<br />
<br />
Open My Computer, select Tools-&gt;Folder Options-&gt;File Types.<br />
Scroll through list to find these and make sure Firefox is set as default:<br />
<br />
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol<br />
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy<br />
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;URL:File Transfer Protocol<br />
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;HTML File<br />
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;HTM File (optional)<br />

Note that you may find the URL file types above under extension &quot;N/A&quot; or &quot;(NONE)&quot;.<br />

You may need to hit the Advanced button and make sure DDE is unchecked, also.<br />
<br />
One more spot to check is Windows Control Panel-&gt;Add/Remove Programs. Select &quot;Set Program Access and Defaults&quot; on hte left hand side. Scroll down to Browsers and make sure your browser of choice is selected as Default.<br />
If you get an error that says &quot;You do not have permission to set program access and defaults&quot;, you are not running as Administrator. &nbsp;Either log in as Admin or contact that person.<br />

3. Have you also gone to IE-&gt;Internet Options-&gt;Programs and Unchecked the &quot;Tell me if IE is Not the Default Browser&quot;?<br />
<br />
Also Security programs can stop you from changing the Default Browser but it should warn you., so please list any security programs you have installed.<br />

I've done everything suggested here: <br />
Set the appropriate default checks / unchecks in each program individually and using the &quot;Set Program Defaults&quot; in the system. <br />
I have also gone through and changed all the appropriate file types to Firefox in the Folder Options. <br />
<br />
Everything works fine until I restart - Then it all reverts to IE7. <br />
<br />
It is a mystery - Any other ideas?

This is a work machine but I have full administrative rights (I think). <br />
<br />
Our security is administered through IT - Firewall, Anti-Virus, etc. <br />
<br />
Anti Virus on this machine is Sophos v7.5.1.

Check with your IT Administrator to determine if you have a Group Policy forcing you to use IE7.

Actually, <br />
Our IT guy said they PREFER that we use Firefox as a web browser. He gave me instructions on downloading and installing Firefox 3.0, and that seems to have solved the default browser issue.
