To hide the process completly you will have to hook NtQuerySystemInformation<br />
OR patch PEB where you can write of the value completly.<br />

PEB is where NtQuerySystemInformation gets its information from.<br />
A good ProcessLister uses PEB when it displays all running Processes.<br />

Anyhow, this is the same technique RootKits uses. I will not provide you the way to aquire this unless your motives are clear.

As already explained in the question, the users do not know what is the update process and generally end the process, I would hide of TASKMANANGER so that no one was able to see him, thus avoiding trouble.

We use a shortcut on the desktop. &nbsp;This starts a loader application. &nbsp;This application checks for a new version, copies it if it finds one.<br />
And in the end starts the application. &nbsp;No need to keep running the updater. &nbsp;We have a other app to send a WM_Quit message to the app we need to update.<br />

Only thing running is the app. &nbsp;The loader application is terminated automically after the app is started<br />
