How can I build .NET 3.5 applications with Visual Studio 2005?

Hi,

I know that Microsoft have long since divorced the .NET compilers from Visual Studio itself.  However, my company is licensed to use Visual Studio 2005 and not 2008.  I want to build a web application for internal use using .NET 3.5 but I'm not sure how to go about doing that.  Can someone help me out?  Questions ...

- I've got the .NET 3.5 framework installed on my workstation - do I need the SDK?  If so, how do I tell VS 2005 to use/how can I give VS 2005 the ability to compile .NET 3.5 applications?
- I'm not interested in using LINQ at this stage but if I want to later on, is this going to be a problem with VS 2005?

Thanks in advance!

You can't, at most you can use .net 3.0 with the proper development kit, but this SDK was intended just for preview purposes.
Unique tool to develop with .net 3.5 is VS2008. You can download VS 2008 Express Edition for free from MSDN site.

Agreed that you can download VS 2008 Express Edition free from MSDN but you can't create web applications, only web sites (they're different as I'm sure you know).  Unless you know of a way you can do web applications in VS2008 Express?
Have you tried Visual Web Developer 2008?

Yep I've tried VWD 2008 but the only options in there are to create a new website.  Also, if you try to open a project created with Visual Studio 2008 in VWD 2008 it doesn't work (just says the type of project is not supported).

The .NET Framework is not specific to any one programming language; rather, it includes a library of functions that allows developers to rapidly build applications. Several supported languages include C#, VB.NET, C++ or ASP.NET.
