How to Deploy .reg files via SMS 2003

I would like to deploy the attached .reg files via SMS 2003.  I attempted but only get Program Started and Program Errors.  The problem lies I believe in configuring the .reg file in SMS - not sure if SMS can deploy these files without some sort of script or bat file:

The program for advertisement "SPD200A2" failed ("SPD0007C" - "IAVA 2008-0043"). The program was able to be executed but the system was restarted unexpectedly before the program could be completed or before status could be recorded. No installation status MIF was found after the system restarted.

Possible cause: The program performs a restart of the client computer when it completes, but the 'After running' setting in the program's properties is not set to Program restarts computer, or the client machine was restarted while the program was running.
Solution: Verify the above. If the program does a restart when it completes, even if it only requires a restart in some cases, modify the program's properties and set 'After running' to 'Program restarts computer'.

I would be looking at group policy to roll out registry changes preferably...

You can try to do the following:
Download :Inno Setup:(free)
http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php

- Use Inno Setup to create an installer just containing your register changes.
The soft is easy to use.
- Deploy it via SMS

The advantage is that SMS will let you to manage the changes, if you need to uninstall later.

Ok, I have attempted using this program but could only get it to create an application setup program that gets installed on the users desktop, this is not what we are looking for.  We simply need to create a program with registry entries that will run under SMS 2003 or we may end up using a group policy.  Either way, the program would have to be called by a cmd file, yes?
You don't have to create an app that install files on your HDD or desktop, you can use just to add register info, but like a installer.

androsix,

Interesting concept, I will have to give that a try on Sunday; I will test it on my test collection.  The reg file needs to be in the same folder as the program, yes? Assuming where the msi is kept.

Thanks,

yea, it depends on how you do it, but I would just keep it with the source files for the main program, that way everything stays together.
If you have the necessary software (Wise/Adminstudio etc) you could package an application which just amends/adds those keys.

I've got a registry application I've created for non-application associated tweaks (i.e. those not tied to an existing application).  I supplement this when neccesary and re-distribute when required.

If not, you could easily distribute via vb/dos either through SMS or through login/logout scripts.
