If you want the empty element not to show in $_POST you have to use Javascript. Iterate through all elements and delete empty ones before submit:<br />

You may set the initial value to &quot;&quot;, but the text field will still show up. You cannot do anything about this, I guess, since it is part of its functionality: a text field is meant to receive user input which usually does not yet exist when the form is loaded. <br />
Not displaying a text input for as long as it is empty would be absurd, because the user will not know that his input is required.
